Justice Carolyn WrightJustice Carolyn Wright has served in the judiciary for more than 20 years, initially as a master and district judge. Later, she was the first of Governor George Bush's judicial appointees to the position, currently held, as Justice on the 5th District Court of Appeals. Her subsequent election to the position marked the first time in Texas history that an African-American woman was elected in a multi-county election for any public office. Prior to her judicial career, she worked in the area of youth advocacy in Washington, DC.
